Planet was first published in 1970 under the editorship of Ned Thomas. John Barnie took over in 1990 after initially joining the magazine on its relaunch in 1985 and Helle Michelsen became editor in 2006 and left, on the 200th issue, in 2010. Jasmine Donahaye is the current editor.
