Beep International Painting Prize
by Catrin Webster

‘Beep’ (Biennial exhibition of painting) is a showcase for international contemporary painting organised by the Elysium gallery in Swansea (an artist-led enterprise), and currently on tour throughout Wales. It includes work by artists from countries including Romania, Spain, the US, Switzerland, South Korea, Ireland, England and several from Wales. It brings together paintings from a broad spectrum of artists and each work is unique. However, there are broad themes within the show which relate to the title, This must be the place I never wanted to leave, which as John Powell, the show’s director and curator explains, ‘aims to explore notions of perception, memory and belonging grounded in a place, space or time in the medium of paint’.
